76ers Basketball Players

History of the Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia 76ers is a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association. They went with the league since 1949 (when it was the Syracuse Nationals) and many of the most famous basketball legends like Julius Erving, Moses Malone and Wilt Chamberlain played for the Sixers.

The team traces its lineage back to 1946 when Danny Biason paid $ 5,000 to the National Basketball League to start a franchise in Syracuse. They were known as national at the time. They were one of seven teams to merge with the NBA in 1949 as the Syracuse Nationals and played until 1963 when the team moved to Philadelphia and renamed the 76ers.

It was not long before the Nationals have had an impact in the league. Future Hall of Famer Dolph Schayes brought forward a season of 1954-55 NBA championship.

Finally, citizens were the only team to play in a medium sized city and began financial difficulties. Biason sold the team to Irv Kosloff then moved the team to Philadelphia. They changed their name to the 76ers from 1776, when Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia. A year earlier, the Philadelphia Warriors had gone to start playing in San Francisco.

In the 1964-65 season, the 76ers acquired Wilt Chamberlain dominant. Chamberlain had played his high school ball in Philadelphia and has made a lasting impression with fans Philadelphia, where he played for the Warriors when they were still in Philadelphia. Two years ago, Chamberlain scored 100 points in a regular season game against Knicks New York, setting a record that has not been treated before or after the deed happened.

The biggest challenge was to 76ers to the Boston Celtics. The Celtics were in the midst of one of the greatest dynasties in professional sports in the 1960's, winning eight straight titles from 1959 to 1966. They beat Philadelphia in the final seven games of the Eastern Conference in 1966.

The 76ers put one of the best seasons in history League the following year. They started winning 46 of their first 50 games en route to a 68-13 record (best record in league history at the time). He passed the final NBA, beating Boston in five games to end their championship series 8. They were against the Warriors in the finals and won six games for his first title since his arrival in Philadelphia.

He returned to Philadelphia in the Eastern Conference final the following year in a rematch of 1967 with the Boston Celtics. Apparently, the end result would be the same after Philadelphia took the lead 3-1 in the series. However, Boston has had in the last three games to return to the Finals the NBA. The 1967-68 season was also remarkable in view of the fact that Chamberlain was traded to the Lakers in Los Angeles.

Shortly after winning six championships 1967 in one of the best seasons of all time, Philadelphia was probably the worst season in league history. They lost their first 15 games of the 1972-73 season and after losing 20 straight this year. They finished with a 9-73 record, that this date is the worst record in league history.

After the ABA-NBA merger in 1976, Philadelphia acquired Julius Erving. Erving had been established among basketball fans as one of the most exciting players Never in his last years in the ABA. Continued to succeed in the NBA, helping the 76ers reach the NLCS in 1977, 1980 and 1982, although they lost in each series.

It was not until the team acquired center Moses Malone 1982-1983 season before Philadelphia was able to win a championship. Malone was named MVP of the season League, as he led them to 65 regular season wins. Dominated throughout the playoffs and went to Malone's prediction to win the championship by defeating the Lakers in a four-game sweep.

The 76ers have not won a championship since his historic 1983 season. They used some of the best players in the league without However, as the vanguard of Charles Barkley and Allen Iverson. Iverson led the Sixers to the finals again in 2001 before losing to the Lakers in five games.

After a disappointing season in 2009-2010, Philadelphia, hired Doug Collins, coach of the team. Collins has played for the team and has been successful as head coach in the NBA once for the Chicago Bulls. They have the second choice in the upcoming NBA Draft and are led by forward Elton Brand and guard Andre Iguodala.
