Basketball Images
I try to get the basketball side with a D40 and a Canon 70-200 F2.8 lens?.
What are the best settings that we use and you should be manually adjusted draft or AP? I know exactly how the gym is well lit, but the overall guidance and advice would be appreciated. Also, I have to throw Thanksgiving as high as ISO 3200 for sharp images?
First, the is a Nikon D40. I suppose you hear a 40D. Secondly, this camera has a factor of 1.6 crop, so your actual field of view of the wider end of this objective is still close enough to be 112mm. This is a great lens, but not sure going to get shots for any team selection or the court. If you want close-ups, then that's fine. I would use Shutter Priority (TV mode). With sports movement, the shutter speed is more important than the opening. Set the shutter speed of 1 / 250. This should be sufficiently rapid "freeze" the movement of players, but you can still get some blur of the ball if it moves very quickly, however, this not a bad thing. Will be supported, and the shutter speed. 1 / 500 or even more may be needed if you feel you have to freeze the movement of ball. Set your ISO to 400. take test shots to see what the opening of the selected camera. You should be able to use this combination, if the gym is very well lit. If the unit needs greater openness of 2.8, and then raise the ISO only as needed. Check your exposure meter to see if the camera is warning of underexposure and also check your histogram test plans for correct exposure. Try to keep the ISO to no more than necessary. You need not even come close to 3200 for a well-lit gym. Steve
