Schools Charter
While schools offer programs of study focused very loving, charter schools offer highly specialized teaching styles. Schools charter are privately owned and operated with grants through the School District of Hillsborough County and the State of Florida. They are as responsible as traditional and magnet public schools through FCAT testing (more on this in "rules" below.) Charter schools often require Parents commit to a number of volunteer hours throughout the school year. They also require parents to understand their particular letter, or contract. Examples of school choices charter include teaching at the Montessori style, Core Curriculum or Independent Study (distance).

Standards
The Sunshine State Standards, or SSS, are the uniform standards of education in each grade level from kindergarten through graduation. All public schools and private sources in Florida have adopted these standards and teaching materials for students to meet or exceed them. In 1998 Florida began testing students on the basis of criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of the SSS. A consortium of educators and education professionals throughout the United States took the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test, or FCAT.
Students are tested annually in third grade through eleven. Reading and math are given every year. Writing is assessed in all classes except the classes of fifth and eleventh. Science is knowledge tested in fifth, eighth and tenth.
Since the 2005-2006 school year, students must pass the test tenth grade to qualify for a high school diploma legally obtaining graduation. Students scoring below the passing grade in all subjects tested are offered opportunities for further tests during their school years to XII.
According to the results of tests on 2005, students in Florida scored at or above the national average fourth grade reading, fourth and eighth grade writing, science, fourth and fourth grade math. All other grade levels and areas of study which compared the averages of Florida students showed they were close to national and gaining ground.
Gorrie Elementary, located just one mile from the University of Tampa, West Tampa, scored the highest of all elementary schools in reading and math fourth graders in all schools in Hillsborough tested in 2006. Roosevelt Elementary, located in the Palma Ceia area, scored highest for fourth grade writing in all schools in Hillsborough County in 2006.
Terrace Community Middle School, a school located south of New Tampa, scored highest among the eight test students in 2006 schools in the Hillsborough County community for mathematics and science. Wilson Middle, located in the island community of Davis, marked more high among students in eighth in reading and writing.
Palma Ceia Plant High School field was the highest among all students in Hillsborough County tenth in math, reading and writing in 2006.
New Tampa schools showed remarkable staying power and above average for each of the six primary two interim and two high schools. Each school received 300 or more in all subjects tested in 2006 for grades four, eight and ten.
Private Schools in Tampa

Tampa Preparatory School welcomes students and their families since the sixth grade through twelfth. Tampa Prep does not offer remedial classes, their program was designed to provide challenging courses in core subjects and a variety of other subjects – fine art, computer, music, dance, theater, golf, athletics, swimming, volleyball, soccer, baseball, basketball and wrestling.
Co-ed students Tampa Catholic High School receive their education in the three R's, and the three objectives set by the Catholic faith – teaching the message of God revealed in Christ and His Church, building Community through fellowship in the life of Holy Spirit, and provide opportunities for community service. After school students continue their education, participating in some of the nearly two dozen clubs and extracurricular activities. Tampa Catholic philosophy is to educate students to complete the mind, body and spirit.
